I believe a religion should guide politics
Religion being a guide to human interaction/intercourse.
Politics being guide to operating a nation.
The religion should be nation building, all encompassing.

To me, the simplest explanation is that it is the same after you die as it was before you were born (just think how relaxing pre-birth was and how fast time went). And if I could choose what will happen to me after death, that is what I would prefer. With any type of heaven scenario, you are bound to get bored. Imagine playing great golf courses and juggling a plethora of fresh virgins for a googol years and still knowing that you haven't really even gotten started yet. The teachings of Jesus are not the problem. He has my utmost respect. But look what has been done in his name. Do you think he wanted THIS? Organized religion could be a beautiful thing. In many parishes it is. But you cannot close your eyes to the torures. massaces, terrorist activities done "in the name of God". You're free to practice in any way you want and all the power to you. But there have been millins of deaths and countless wars fought so that people can see the light. But if they see a different light KILL them in the name of their loving and caring God. But a jealous God. With a temper. What or who the frick does the higher power have to be jealous of?? I'm not arguing with you. I have no desire to change you nor am Ithat presumptuous. That's what I meant by I thought we can experience the higher power without intermediaries...although acid wouldn't hurt. ;-) Truth is none of us knows.
