I usually don't like hires that are only because of former ties to the team.
I don't think it works out most of the time, whether in college, the NBA, or other sports. What did Mullin do at St. John's?
Also, another indicator is that would any other team have interviewed Howard? If the answer is "No", then it's not a good hire.
If another team also thought he would be a good coach, then it probably means he's earned the job opportunity.

Wisconsin was 8-5 last year, but 13-1 the year before that.
Maybe they'll be as good as they were in 2017 again? Maybe they just had another good year this year.

Ohio State has something to do with that.
I can see a championship run by them.

Mich has had many problems with ND over the years.
ND was always out-smarting Mich. They would have a game under their belt before playing Mich.
Then it dawned on Mich. maybe they should get a game under their belt before tasking ND.
Since they were getting their ass-kicked, yearly.
