Good question. I need to think about this. Some stuff would violate his parole and put him back in prison. I only want to embarrass him. He's an easy out in fantasy sports so we like to keep him around despite his being a bad role model for junior.

Would you rather have junior find a role model from a friend's parents? A trained gorilla is equipped with better parenting skills than Bill. Funny you should say that here in the book thread. Back in the day, I actually swore by a book entitled "Parenting your children like a trained gorilla". It was so insightful. It also probably explains Junior's fondness for eating bananas.

. The Thousand Names. (Book one of five in The Shadow Campaign series). A flintlock fantasy. Likeable characters. Well written. It starts out a bit slow but not boring and picks up steam at the 60% mark. It' was very difficult to put down when I got to the last 100 pages. Not too heavy on politics and lots of battles. Great unexpected twist at the end. Looking forward to reading book two and finding out which direction Django Wexler takes it. 4/5 stars.

The good --------- The Thousand Names. (Book 1 Shadow Campaign series). Military fantasy. Flintlock. Mostly told through two characters POV. IMO, well written with likable characters. Started a bit slow and then the pace picked up. Not too heavy on politics and lots of battles. Unexpected twists. Looking forward to reading book two and finding out where this goes.
The bad -------- The last 100 pages were very exciting but there were several very unrealistic things going on. Figuratively rolled my eyes.
The ugly -------- This guy is another Jim Butcher with all the Deus ex machina. But a worthy debut.
Rating 4/5

A Trick Of The Light (Louise Penny). My go to mystery writer. The characters are complex and you feel like you're in this small town. I started on book 3 and this was my 6th ( best read in order to get the full experience).

The ugly -------- This guy is another Jim Butcher with all the Deus ex machina. But a worthy debut. Rating 4/5 Can you given an example of an unrealistic thing? Yeah. Like this one main character has broken ribs and all kinds of stuff so that she doesn't wake up in her hospital bed until 12 days later. So she wakes up in pain and stiff while recovering. She forces hwmersekf to get out of bed when she hears about something going down. She arrives limping and encounters these zombie things that are pulling sown other healthy soldiers and eating them. She gets pulled down and like 20 are oulling her apart but no damage or bites when someone saves her arse and then afterward runs what amounts to a good mile or two through these passages getting chased by these zombies and every so often she thinks about being in pain. THIS from someone who could barely get out of bed. Just stupid. Plus Deus ex machina throughout the book with all the main characters. As far as why I started on book 3 is because I saw it on a Kindle deal for $2.99 (regular 9.99 which is a lot for a book I go through in 3 dand it looked good so I got it and really enjoyed it. After that I noticed that every month the next book in the series went on sale for the same price. I started in late April with book 3, book 4 May, book 5 June book 6 july book 7 August and I have book 8 which went on sale in lateSeptember. Hopefully book 9 goes on sale in late October. I've never sen Anazon do that with a series before. Luckily I figured it out right away. So I'm guessing books 1 & 2 came out last February and March. There are 13 books so far and the last one just came out so I doubt it gets marked down. But I'm hoping the pattern continues for books 9-12. If not, I will buy them regardless. It's too good to miss. So boiks 3-8 cost a total of $18. Regular would have cost me $60. Big difference. .

Gaudy Night-Lord Wimsey mystery series. Sayers was born in 1893 so while the mystery was pretty good their was too muvh poetry and flowery archaic writing. Much of which seemed superfluous and certainly beyond my comprehension. No need to return to that series,
