The Shadow Throne. Book 2/5 Shadow Campaigns. I enjoyed this one more than the first even though there were far fewer battles. This one took place in a more urban setting. Good characters and twists. Will read book 3 before too long.
Read my 3rd Douglas Richards novel. If you like thrillers based on sci-fi these are well researched and exciting. The protagonist is usually some poor schmuck who falls into something and everyone wants to kill. Far from the flat perfect James Bond type of hero/heroine. They all take off at a fly within the first 10 pages.

I'm making this up. Let's say a guy has discovered a new way to make rocket fuel that is so quick it takes you to new dimensions. Somebody with unlimited resorces wants to use this invention for some nefarious purpose. Or wants to prevent it from becoming public knowledge for any of a number of his own reasons. So top assassins are hired and the inventor gets chased the entire book figuring stuff out as goes. Oh yeah, of course he meets a girl who gets involved. Not a knockout James Bond girl. But a cute smart girl. The books are formulaic yet the topics are very different. And they give you food for thought.

Mystery by Rhys Bowen. Death Of Riley. It was ok. Nothing deep. The murderer wasn't really a part of it until 2/3 through so you received no info on them Impossible to guess and by that time she tells you. Plus you knew who the victim was from the book title. . 3 of 5 stars. If you want a mystery I would suggest Phil Rickmans Merrily Watkins series (a hint of the supernatural inva small town- not a cozy but not over the top) or Louise Penny's Insoector Gamache series (also a small town with great characters). All are stand alones but both series (especially Penny's) are best read in order. Not necessary though.

Read book 3 of 5 in The Shadow Campaigns. Afterward I read some reviews. Had I known anything about the French Revolution I would have realized the series is a historical allegory. I found lots of similarities (sans magic) once I Googled it. Regardless, a really good series.
The 5th and final book of The Traitor Son Cycle was released October 31st. I started it the same day. This is one of my favorite series ever. A great debut by Myles Cameron.

So I am guessing I read a book four about a year ago?, The previous three I probably read iover three or four months. Maybe. Taking a break in between each one. The only bad thing is the horrible editing. Books one and two were terrible. Three and four so in a lot of improvement. Book five is terrible.

Why is the editing terrible? Can you give an example?

Well, here goes:Since 10/31
1. Book 5 of 5 of The Traitor Son Cycle. Battles galore and I must admit that a couple of characters deaths really hit me hard. The horrendous editing showed improvement in books 3 & 4 but it returned to terrible in book 5. I learned a lot about what it took to get their armor on and walk around in it for long periods.
2 and 3the Hangman and The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny. The 1st was a short story and nothing special. The latter was really good but unlike the first 7 books it took place in a monastary (Think Name Of The Rose) so the normal cast of kooky townspeople weren’t in it. Bummer.
4. Waters and the Wild. A combo dark fairy tale, psychological thriller and mystery all wrapped up in one. I know the author personaliy so I was relieved I could write a great review. Had I thought it was average or below I just would have told her I hadn’t got around to it yet. Great setting in Ireland. These weren’t Tinkerbell fairies. They had fangs and zero good Qualities. Very eerie.
4 The Golem And The Jinni. I thought it might be too lightheaded but it was gothic if anything. An imaginative tale. Won several awards.
5 Eternity Ring. My 2nd Catherine Wentworth Miss Silver mystery. Though I would give another a try as I searched for my third go-to mystery. Somewhat entertaining but the language was outdated.
6. WINNER! Found my new mystery series. Told from the POV. The book is tongue in cheek and the main character is a head strong bully of a woman. All the stories take place in the Egypt of around 1900. Very well done. This was by Elizabeth Peters and book 1 of a 20 book series. .

I would feel insulted except I know you guys are illiterate and were just randomly hitting keys. Don’t quit your day jobs (collecting the money to put in the organ grinders tin cup).

I've never heard of an "organ grinders tin cup". Or even an "organ grinder". Is that something they use to make sausages?

Nevermind, I wouldn't want to eat a sausage made from organs. Then again, I've always avoided those links that tell you how sausages are really made.

In days gone by a man would walk down the street playing a portable organ and the little monkey with a hat would collect all the coins the appreciative audience would put in the cup. The monkey gets a banana which makes him happy but Bill needed to moonlight. Tough to support a family with bananas. m.youtube.com/watch?v=57fhOePVRFE
