I realize it was a sign of the rimes but his play the Merchent of Venice was totally anti-semitic. Just like so many classics treatment of blacks. Doesn’t make it ok, though and that stuff detracts from the stories from me. In Merchant, Shylock is portrayed as the bad guy for demanding a pound of flesh for wanting revenge on Antonio, who taunted him unprovoked for years. Shylock stated what he wanted, won, and was cheated in the end and the audience loves it because he was a Jew. But even the argument that he didn’t ask for blood and you cannot cut out flesh without blood is flawed. That isn’t Shylocks problem and he should’ve said “fine. Wash the blood off then give me my pound”. The guy made a stupid deal and lost. But the merchant is screwed and not Antonio. I agree.

It is a complicated, problematic play, with unacceptable strong indications of anti-Semitism even that is written in Elizabethan era.
But is it a Jew-hating play or a play about Jew haters, there are many who think that the jury is still out on this and always will be.

But is it a Jew-hating play or a play about Jew haters, there are many who think that the jury is still out on this and always will be. I’ve never heard of that before. What is there in the play to back that theory up? Who is made fun of and portrayed as evil besides Shylock? The heroine is the girl that poses as a male lawyer who gets Antonio off the hook and the comedy comes in because the jew gets screwed. If Shakespeare was that subtle his audiences never looked past the surface. Why would he do that? Stick up for jews. Is this something he’s done in other plays? It was the prevailing sentiment of those times. If it was that way Antonio would’ve been the loser. THAT would make it loud and clear.

So i had no idea a book was dedicated to me a couple years ago. He mentioned the support of the entire forum but I (Darth Tater was one of a few names singled out. I came upon it purely by chance. I’m rooting for the guy but while the rest of the forum worships his series I read a chapter and thought it was dumb so I just acted like I never read it. I hope he gets discovered and becomes famous. He’s a good guy but quite an ego* . * unlike a certain jackass on this forum who is a jerk but also has a huge ego. Hint: Not Darth Tater. I’m a jerk but without the ego trip. Hint two: part of his last name has an alcoholic beverage in it. Can anyone guess?

No, I have no idea what the name of the book is that is dedicated to you, or whom the author is.
Is it one of these books?

Anyhow, I don’t have time for this. I’m late for my date with Cleopatra... How did it go? What did you do? Did the date end with a smile?
